"Tough" signfica, in inglese, resistente: sono fotocamere sono progettate per resistere a polvere, fango, agli agenti atmosferici e cadute accidentali; alcune possono anche essere impiegate sott’acqua. Sebbene la qualità dell'immagine sia spesso frutto di compromessi, queste macchine superano indenni situazioni in cui le altre macchine si guasterebbero.
L’obiettivo permette di ottenere delle lunghezze focali (rispetto ad un 35mm) di 25-100 mm con un fattore di zoom pari a 4x. Alla lunghezza focale minima questa lente è adeguata per riprendere paesaggi, gruppi di persone o anche vedute panoramiche; il modesto zoom non è una limitazione se si impiega questa lente soprattuto per ritratti o soggetti abbastanza vicini.
La risoluzione del sensore è di 16 Mpixel; lo schermo posteriore ha una diagonale di 2,6".
