Palm oil campaign
06 lug 2016
Altroconsumo reaffirms its tests efficiency and validity following the statements made by the Italian Union for sustainable palm oil.
Altroconsumo affirms that thanks to its laboratory tests it has been possible to verify quickly the presence of toxic components in children food as EFSA noticed in its last report over vegetal oil contaminants, which can be found in food. In particular, on the basis of EFSA scientific data regarding food safety, palm oil contains toxic components that are found ten times more compared to other fats: Altroconsumo has chosen for its analysis the more popular products indicated by ESFA as particularly dangerous for children, from the birth to the adolescence, obviously without expecting to cover the entire market.
Our analysis have confirmed in several occasions the presence of an amount of toxic components higher than the safety limits indicated by EFSA; the consumers have the right to be informed and the authorities must handle this situation immediately.
The method used in the test has already been told to the producers who requested it. The name of the laboratory, which is never made public as a careful method choice by Altroconsumo in order to guarantee its independence and avoid any possible pressures or threatens, is however available to the Authorities.
Altroconsumo will carry on, as always done, to test in the laboratories any type of products, in order to control constantly the healthiness of the food to be sold and to give the consumers useful indications to choose healthier one.
