Thank you for your email and for explaining your concerns.
We would like to clarify how the insurance purchased through our website works, as there appears to have been some misunderstanding regarding the coverage.
The insurance purchased through DoYouItaly is a private reimbursement policy, independent from the car rental company. This means that it is an agreement between yourself and the insurer arranged through us, and not an insurance product provided or managed by the rental office.
For this reason, the local rental company is not required to recognise or replace their own insurance products with our policy. Their staff may still offer additional local insurance at the desk in order to reduce or eliminate the security deposit or excess according to their own rental conditions.
However, this does not mean that your DoYouItaly insurance was invalid. On the contrary, your policy remained fully valid during the rental period. As clearly explained on our website and stated in your insurance policy documents and confirmation email, this is a reimbursement insurance. This means that, in the event of damage or an eligible charge, the rental company may first charge you according to the rental agreement, and you can then claim the eligible amount back through your insurance policy.
All of this information, including the type of coverage purchased and how it works, was available in writing before and after the booking, both on our website and in the policy documentation sent to you by email.
Regarding the additional insurance purchased at the rental desk, please note that this was an optional service accepted locally and charged directly by the rental company. As it was agreed and signed at collection, we are unfortunately unable to dispute or refund those charges.
Likewise, our insurance policy can only be cancelled before the rental begins and before the policy becomes active. Once the pick-up time has passed and the rental has started, the policy is already in force and cannot be cancelled retrospectively.
In conclusion, we would like to reassure you that you were insured during your rental and that the policy purchased through our website was fully valid and active under the agreed terms.
