I would like to report what I believe was an unfair and misleading practice during a car rental with Drivalia at Florence Airport, from 10 to 17 June 2026.
I booked the vehicle through Discover Cars and had already purchased their Full Coverage. At the Drivalia rental desk, I was offered Drivalia's additional Super Cover, which I explicitly declined. Despite this, the Super Cover was subsequently added to my rental agreement and €230.58 was charged.
I was asked to sign the rental contract on an iPad without the contents being explained to me. The contract I subsequently received was in Italian. At the time, I understood that I was signing the standard rental documentation and did not realise that an additional insurance product I had explicitly declined had been included.
When I challenged the charge, Drivalia initially stated that it would conduct an internal review into whether the contract and additional services had been properly explained at the desk. However, no details or outcome of this investigation were ever provided. Their subsequent responses relied solely on the fact that I had signed the contract and did not address my repeated statement that I had explicitly declined the additional insurance.
I also raised the matter with Discover Cars, who contacted Drivalia on my behalf. However, Drivalia maintained that the charge was valid simply because the additional service appeared on the signed contract. My credit-card dispute was subsequently also declined.
I am not seeking a refund through this complaint. My purpose is to bring attention to what I believe may be a misleading sales practice, particularly the addition of an optional paid protection product after it had been explicitly declined, the lack of explanation before signing, and the lack of transparency regarding the subsequent investigation.
I would appreciate Altroconsumo reviewing this matter and, if appropriate, bringing attention to this practice so that other consumers can be better informed.
I have attached the rental agreement, invoice and relevant correspondence with Drivalia, Discover Cars and my card issuer.
