I am Andrea Menghini, the renter of the van from 12-09-2024 to 16-09-2024 in Biarritz.
Upon inspecting the van provided by your company, we discovered that the water tank was filled with gasoline instead of water when attempting to fill it. This posed a significant danger to us, as we could have used that gasoline for showering or accidentally ingested it from the sink.
We immediately informed the company and were provided with a new van. However, the exchange was done quickly without a joint inspection of the vehicle and without signing any verification document as was done for the first van. At the end of the vacation, we returned the van by leaving the keys in a box, as agreed with the company representative, without conducting a final inspection of the vehicle.
Upon our return to Italy, we received a compensation request for damages we did not cause. The reported damages include a refrigerator malfunction, which was already present before our departure, a missing piece of the roof, which was also absent before our use, and dirty seats that were already dirty at the time of rental. If the company representative had inspected the van before handing it over to us, they would have noticed these issues.
We believe it is unfair to be asked to pay for damages we did not cause, especially considering that the company did not detect the presence of gasoline in the water tank of the first van. Therefore, we have reasons to assume that just as the first van containing gasoline was not checked, the second van given to us was not adequately inspected. I attach the document we should have signed, which lacks our signature confirming the vehicle inspection.
Therefore, I hereby request compensation for all damages suffered, estimated at a total of €1077. I invite you to reimburse this amount as soon as possible via the payment method used for the payment.
In the absence of a response within 15 days of receipt of this letter, I reserve the right to take legal action to protect my rights.
